As Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a location-based technology grows, so has GIS on the world wide web. GIS is no longer only a standalone desktop software for analysts and cartographers. GIS layers and maps can be published to the internet, and have evolved to Web GIS layers and applications that can be shared and used in organizations for many use cases including data acquisition, decision making, and operational intelligence. GIS is great for communicating and depicting real world locations, structures, and observations. As Web GIS has matured, so has Mobile GIS.
