Thermodynamics I
The study of the principles of thermodynamics, including the First and Second Laws, entropy, thermodynamic properties of single component materials, engines, refrigeration, and power cycles.

Transport Process
Emphasis on foundation and conceptual understanding of physical phenomena. Focus on prototypes of convective transport and transport processes involving homogeneous and heterogenous reactions; role of boundary conditions including moving boundaries; molecular interpretation of diffusion.
Tissue Engineering
This course will introduce concepts of engineered tissue replacements and tissue model systems for basic research. We will discuss the growing need for tissue replacements, in vivo cell-matrix relationships in biology, and how we can engineer biomaterials (both bioinert and bioinstructive) to act as cell scaffolds.
