Good Intentions
The course focuses on understanding and solving problems that have arisen, at least in part, from human-animal interactions. While these interactions frequently originate with the best of intentions, the consequences are often unexpected and not very good. Through reading primary peer-reviewed literature as well as web postings, students will acquire the specific knowledge, which, combined with information from their previous courses in their major and general education classes, will form the basis for group and class discussions.

In this course, you will explore your role as a professional in your field through an internship at an arts/ humanities/ cultural organization. It asks and attempts to answer the questions: How will you continue your art? Your passion? When you graduate, how will you make a living? Why is the economy of the arts the way it is? You will think both critically and practically about the economic environment into which you will graduate and how this environment will shape your economic and artistic future ? and the ways that you in turn shape the culture and economy in which we all live.

ST-Statistical Methods/DataSci
This course provides an introduction to the statistical techniques that are most applicable to data science. Topics include regression, classification, resampling, linear model selection and regularization, tree-based methods, support vector machines and unsupervised learning. The course includes a computing component using statistical software. Students must have prior experience with a statistical programming language such as R, Python or MATLAB.
ST- Egyptian Arabic IV
This course is offered in a special independent study format through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Egyptian Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed Egyptian Arabic III or the equivalent.
Canine Tumor Research Project
This laboratory course is an introduction to mammalian cell culture techniques in the context of conducting basic research with primary canine tumors and an established canine mammary cell line. Topics include etiology of canine mammary and mast cell cancers, canine mammary cancer as a model for human breast cancer, development of patient-derived xenografts, and immunohistochemistry.
Writing In Biology
Satisfies Junior Year Writing requirement for Biology majors. Students write and revise short papers on subjects likely to be encountered by biologists. Class discussion of papers. Prerequisites: 3 biological science courses, for declared Biology majors only.
