ST-Modern Irish I

Modern Irish I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Modern Irish (also known as Irish Gaelic). The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Modern Irish develop speaking and listening skills useful for study abroad in Ireland and to support course work in Celtic Studies.

ST- Modern Tibetan I

Modern Tibetan I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Modern Tibetan. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Modern Tibetan develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Tibet or Tibetan-speaking areas and to support course work in Asian Studies or Buddhist Studies.

ST-Levantine Arabic VI

Levantine Arabic VI is offered in a special independent study format through the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages. The course develops speaking and listening skills in colloquial Jordanian, Lebanese, Palestinian, and Syrian Arabic. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions with a native speaker and a final evaluation by an outside evaluator. In order to enroll in this course, students must have completed Levantine Arabic V or the equivalent and be comfortable with advanced level speaking and listening skills.

Danish I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Danish. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. Students studying Danish develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Denmark and to support course work in European Studies.

Haitian Creole III

Haitian Creole III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Haitian Creole. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Haitian Creole develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Haiti and to support course work in Caribbean and/or Francophone Studies.

Filipino III

Filipino III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Filipino, the national language of the Philippines, developed from Tagalog and other regional languages. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Filipino develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Philippines and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.

ST-Bangla/Bengali I

Bangla/Bengali I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Bangla. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bangla/Bengali develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bangladesh and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

ST-Media Turkish B

This course is for early advanced students of Turkish. The goals of the course are to increase knowledge of media-related vocabulary, to increase listening comprehension, to enhance knowledge of Turkish media culture, and to gain practice in expressing ideas and opinions orally and in written form.
