FYS-CritThinking/Pol Polar Age

Everyone who has paid even a little bit of attention to American politics over the past few years has come to the same conclusion: The whole country has gone mad! Or, more accurately, half of it has. It's become increasingly easy to think that members of the "other side" are simply irrational when it comes to political matters ? that they've gone off the rails, have been duped by fake news and propaganda, and are afflicted by group-think.

FYS - Race in America

Our history as a nation is profoundly influenced by our adherence to disturbing racial narratives. These stories, that tell us who should be in power, and who should not, who should enjoy safety and comfort and who should not, and who should be allowed to exist in certain spaces and who should not, are so baked into our daily culture that we scarcely think about them. When people with privilege are forced to think about them, they often become profoundly disturbed and upset.

S-HumanRights/Women/BrazilUS

This course aims to explore the renewed centrality of gender and the language of "rights" in both Brazil and the U.S. In recent times, we have seen the mainstreaming of "gender", as gender and women's demands for inclusion on human rights has emerged as important political categories across local and national boundaries, by right-wing organizations and movements, as well in feminist responses in both contexts.
