ST- Latin American Cinema

The course is designed to introduce students to the cinematic work of some of the most important Latin American directors from the seventies to the present. The course will center on a variety of topics that are vital to the understanding of the most significant political, historical, social and cultural events that have shaped Latin America. Some of the topics to be examined in the class are: racial, gender, sexual and identity issues; nation formation; revolution; immigration; repression; utopia; resistance; violence; freedom and slavery.

Intro Span Amer Lit

Introduction to the literature of Spanish America from the beginnings to the end of the Romantic period. Emphasis on literary currents and their relation to history and culture of the period. Representative poetry, narrative, drama. Prerequisite: SPANISH 311 or consent of instructor. (Gen.Ed. HS, DG)

General View/Hispanic Linguist

This course offers an introduction to general notions of language and involves critical thinking, logic and linguistic notation. In this class students will learn the formal properties of the Spanish language: phonology, prosody, morphology, syntax and semantics. The general goal of the course is to present a broad view of the nature of human language using Spanish as an example.
