Visual Cultures and Youth in S
This course looks at multi-media visual narratives and/productions in South Asia and its impact on youth and culture in the region. We will be exploring the relationship of Television, Film, New Media to evolving youth cultures (and subcultures) in South Asia. We will study the historical dominance of Indian media in the sub-continental media consumption (and re-production) but also explore lesser known media from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri-Lanka).

This highly demanding course is for juniors and seniors with a passion for getting things done through the political and government process. It will examine key challenges facing many local governments such as financial distress and economic development; how elected officials build resources and support to address complex challenges at the state and local levels; and will closely examine a set of concrete cases drawn from local governments in New England.
ST-African American TV Studies
Media has played an important role in our society's ever-evolving constructions of race, especially in the 20th and 21st centuries. For African Americans, media representations typically involved exaggerated and negative depictions of black femininity and masculinity. This course will analyze and critique representations of African Americans in television genres - comedy, reality shows, dramas, and documentary / news - and explore the juxtaposition of external and internal representations of race and gender.

Theoretical and practical questions in phenomenological in-depth interviewing. For those interested in gaining experience with qualitative research in education using interviewing methodology. Project-centered course.
