Lecture, discussion, laboratory. Modern optics. Geometrical and classical physical optics. Matrix methods in optical design. Optical instruments. Interference and spatial coherence. Diffraction. Fourier transform spectroscopy. Prerequisites: PHYSICS 422, 424.

Modern and classic experiments performed with up-to-date techniques. Course complements 400-level physics courses, and satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Physic and BS-Physic majors. Prerequisites: introductory physics with labs (PHYSIC 181-182, 283, 284, 285, 286, or equivalent), or consent of instructor.

Second half of the experimental course for sophomore majors. Experiments on a range of topics in modern physics. Corequisite: PHYSICS 284.

Electricity and magnetism. Emphasis on basic foundations of physics and techniques used to solve a wide range of problems.
