Non-Lin&Dynamic Prog

Theory and methods required to solve nonlinear problems: Kuhn-Tucker theory, quadratic, separable and geometric programming gradient techniques, and dynamic programming. Methods of stochastic programming surveyed. Formulations and applications stressed, case examples presented. Prerequisite: M&I-Eng 620. Equivalent to Sch-Mgmt 822.

ST-Metamaterials

Structuring of materials at the micro-/nano-scale has become a standard method for creating optical, thermal, acoustic, and mechanical properties, which are not possible by traditional stochastic material processing. The new materials created by the deliberate control of their structures have been called ?metamaterials? and will play a critical role in the development of future high-performance materials. The aim of the course is to provide multidisciplinary knowledge for understanding metamaterials with selected applications.

Prodctn Plan&Control

Quantitative techniques of production planning and control, including master production scheduling, manufacturing resources planning, operation scheduling, materials management, just-in-time production, facility layout, and forecasting.

Design of Mechanical Systems

A Senior Design (SD) project course including design concept selection, design spec writing, assembly design (DFM), design analysis, a final report and oral presentations in defense of the design. Prerequisites: M&I-ENG 313, 354, 375 and 413. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BS-ME majors..

Manufctrng Processes

Design for manufacturability; emphasis on design for injection molding, die casting, and stamping. Introduction to design for assembly. Introduction to machining, metal casting, polymer processing, and bulk deformation processes (forging, extrusion, drawing, and rolling) and sheet-metalworking process. Prerequisites: M&I-ENG 201 and 211.
