ST-ExtensiveJapaneseReading2
Students choose from a wide selection of Japanese books in the East Asian Collection and read at their own pace. The important part of extensive reading is to choose a book where you understand 90% - 95% of the content. In doing so, you can guess the meaning of a new vocabulary word based on the surrounding context without using a dictionary. Available texts cover a wide variety of genres and contain culturally relevant aspects of Japanese history and society to supplement materials studied in other courses.

Communicating in Japanese
This course is designed to help students become effective communicators in Japanese. The course uses the Team Based Learning format, meaning that students will do activities in teams. The first part of the course focuses on two key Japanese social concepts that have had extensive impact on communication: the uchi (inside)/soto (outside) distinction and the hierarchical order.
