Embracing Diversity

This course is about cultural diversity in the University community and how we can better understand ourselves and others through an appreciation of college education as a cultural experience, with its own unique set of rules, biases, and expectations. The course is designed for first year students. (Gen.Ed. I, U)

ST-Malaria,Cancer,ClimateChng

introduces students to the concept and types of simulation modeling needed for understanding complex systems and addressing global problems in healthcare, energy, transportation, among others. We will start with simple experiments that can be calculated by hand or in Excel to introduce the concept of simulation; then extend into systems modeling by creating simple code using compartmental techniques and agent-based programming. Some of the examples we will use include modeling of malaria, cancer, climate change, and social networks.
