College Writing

ENGLWRIT 112 (College Writing) is a first-year college-level writing course designed to help students expand their ability to write essays for academic, civic, and personal purposes and to develop their rhetorical awareness to write effectively in new social contexts. Based on the assumption that writing is a social activity, this course requires active engagement in the writing process, including pre-writing, peer review, revision, and editing. Students write five essays. This is the only course at UMass Amherst which satisfies the General Education College Writing (CW) requirement.

Jazz Dance II

This course is designed to be simultaneously technical, philosophical, and socio-cultural. It is intended to cultivate a practice of mining an available body within the landscape of Jazz dance technique and researching the possibilities of self-transformation through shifts in perception of dance.

Modern Dance II

Modern Dance technique after the Humphrey/Limon style. Floor work, center and locomotor exercises geared to enhance the student's strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, spatial awareness, rhythmic understanding and dynamics of movement. Attention is given to isolated movements and full combinations across the floor.

Modern Dance IV

Building on Modern II, this class is geared towards refining a dancer's kinesthetic awareness and to enhance the student's strength, coordination, balance, flexibility, spatial awareness, rhythmic understanding and dynamics of movement. Attention is given to isolated movements and full combinations across the floor or in center.
