Themes Fren Lit&Intlct History

Course taught in French.

Some of the major contributions of French writers over the centuries to an exploration of the human condition. Focus on several different aspects of the relations between such intellectual inquiry and the evolution of literary forms and genres. The specific themes chosen by the instructor. For example: first semester: love and hate in tragedies, comedies, poems and novels; second semester: adolescence, identity, and individuation. May be used for the major requirement instead of FRENCH 324.

Elementary French II

A second-semester elementary French course: a continuation of FRENCHST 110 with emphasis on acquiring basic level of proficiency in the language and understanding of the culture of France and the Francophone world.
Prerequisite: FRENCHST 110, one semester of college French, or two years of high school French. Freshmen with senior year high school French with a grade of A or B are encouraged to enroll in FRENCHST 120 rather than 110.

Wkshp Tchng Assis I

Course taught in English.
A weekly workshop/class for all M.A. and M.A.T students teaching French and Italian language classes for the first time. The course will introduce current methods and ideas of language teaching and testing and will focus on the courses they are actually teaching. There are no exams or papers but there will be biweekly presentations.
