Introduction to a block-structured, object-oriented high-level programming language. Covering language syntax and use the language to teach program design, coding, debugging, testing and documentation. Procedural and data abstraction are introduced. Enrollment limited to 48; 24 per lab section.

This course teaches the basic skills of 16mm film production, including camera work, editing, animation, optical printing and preparation for a finished work in film and video. Students will submit weekly written responses to theoretical and historical readings and to screenings of films and dvd's that represent a variety of aesthetic approaches to the moving image. There will be a series of filmmaking assignments culminating in a final project. The bulk of the work will be produced in 16mm format including a variety of ways to self process film or create cameraless moving images.

Photography Workshop I - Analog is an introduction to the technical, aesthetic and conceptual aspects of the medium of photography. Through a series of assignments, students will learn the craft of analog photography including correct exposure and metering, black-and-white film processing and printing in the darkroom, and presentation techniques. Slide lectures will cover key points of the medium's history and introduce a variety of contemporary photographers.
