Elemntr Four-Skilled Arabic I

This first semester of a year-long course introduces the basics of Modern Standard Arabic, also known as Classical Arabic. It begins with a coverage of the alphabet, vocabulary for everyday use, and essential communicative skills relating to real-life and task-oriented situations (queries about personal well-being, family, work, and telling the time). Students will concentrate on speaking and listening skills, as well as on learning the various forms of regular verbs, and on how to use an Arabic dictionary.

American Sign Language I

This course introduces the third mostly widely used language in the United States and Canada. It is intended to give an overview of both the language and the culture of the deaf community. Emphasis will be focused on learning basic grammatical structure as well as developing receptive and expressive signing skills using in everyday conversation, also being able to give a skit in American Sign Language. Cultural aspects of the Deaf community will be shared through readings, videotapes/DVDS, presenters and class discussion.

Leadership/Org Behavior

Provides an overview of different perspectives and approaches to leadership practice and related organizational behavior topics. Relying on a participative multi-learning approach, the course goes beyond traditional leadership practices to examine empowering leadership approaches for addressing contemporary organizational behavior challenges such as leading teams. The overall objective is to increase students? understanding of and ability to apply contemporary leadership and organizational behavior knowledge in work situations.

Farm Enterprise Practicum II

Continuation of guided practicum experience (PLSOILIN 398E), with students maintaining crops planted in the Spring semester and preparing fields for winter. Students will harvest, clean, store and market their crops. Participation in weekly seminar required. Students will prepare written report covering all aspects of the production and marketing components of their target crops and present results/recommendations to the group. Offered in Fall term. Pre-requisite: PLSOILIN 398E.
