Purpose: An opportunity to discuss current state, national, and global issues and events with talented faculty, distinguished community members, politicians, and influential alums. Class time will be devoted to vibrant and challenging discussions based on critical reading and analysis of newspaper articles on current issues Requirements: Reading the front page stories from the New York Times and the Boston Globe daily. Supplemental reading as needed.

This course combines theoretical aspects and hands-on laboratory methods for molecular epidemiology. Topics include biomarkers, gene-environmental interactions, nutrient-toxicant interactions, and epigenetics. Laboratory components include DNA isolation, PCR and genotyping.

Topics include hypothesis testing for two populations, analysis of variance for comparing three or more populations, simple linear regression, topics in multiple regression, and univariate time-series techniques like moving averages and exponential smoothing. Statistical software is used for advanced computations. Basic algebra required.

"Shaha: The Storytellers", a diversity peer education troupe is a theatre-based program that is educational, entertaining, and thought-provoking. Shaha members perform short scenarios touching on issues of social justice and oppression that many of us are faced with in our day-to-day lives.
