SEM:INTERNATIONAL POLITICS

Topics course. The seminar identifies and analyzes the sources and patterns of conflict and cooperation among Asian states and between Asian and Western countries in the contemporary period. The course concludes by evaluating prospects for current efforts to create a new "Asia Pacific Community." Permission of the instructor is required.

GOV & POLITICS OF JAPAN

Same as EAS 228. An introductory survey and analysis of the development of postwar Japanese politics. Emphasis on Japanese political culture and on formal and informal political institutions and processes, including political parties, the bureaucracy, interest groups and electoral and factional politics.

OFFSET PRINTMAKING I

Introduction to the printmaking technique of hand-drawn lithography, photographic halftone lithography through Adobe Photoshop and linocut. May be repeated once for credit. A required fee of $75 to cover group-supplied materials is charged at the time of registration. Students may require additional supplies as well and are responsible for purchasing them directly. Prerequisite: ARS 161, or permission of the instructor. Enrollment limited to 12.

RACQUET SPORTS: TENNIS I

Sectioned course. Students are introduced to the basic strokes of tennis (forehand, backhand, volleys, serves). Singles and doubles play and basic positioning are presented. Tennis rules and etiquette are included in the curriculum. Enrollment limited to 16 per section.

RACQ SPORTS: BRITISH RACKETBAL

Sectioned course. British Racketball is similar to squash played with a racquetball racquet and slow-bouncing British racketball on a standard-sized squash court. British racketball is the easiest of the racquet sports to learn and is an ideal introduction for those with minimal experience in racquet sports. Students are encouraged to register for the ESS squash, tennis and badminton classes following completion of this course. Nonmarking shoes suitable for squash are mandatory. Enrollment limited to 16

SELF DEFENSE: TAI CHI I

Sectioned course. An introduction to the Chinese martial art that was developed over 300 years ago. Emphasis is on learning and understanding the unique movements of Chen Taijiquan, proper practice for health, and self-defense applications. No prerequisites. Enrollment limited to 20 per section.

SELF DEFENSE: KUNG FU

Sectioned course. Indonesian Kung-Fu is a traditional martial art that offers students physical fitness, coordination, increased focus, energy and awareness, self-discipline and personal growth. This course includes meditation, breath and energy awareness, physical conditioning, stretching, self-defense, choreographed sparring combinations and forms. Enrollment limited to 20.

PHYS COND:PILATES MAT TRAIN I

Sectioned course. A course designed to teach the mat exercises of Joseph Pilates. These exercises increase core strength, increase joint mobility and stability, and increase muscle tone and flexibility. By the end of this course students are able to develop and maintain their own Pilates matwork program. Enrollment limited to 25.
