ChemEng Princp/Biological Syst

This course is intended to be an introduction to many core Chemical Engineering principles, within the context of mammalian cell biology and human physiology. We will cover biological topics of cell division, DNA, receptor-ligand binding, matrix protein assembly, tissue engineering, and cell motility, using a quantitative engineering perspective. Within this biological framework, students will learn the basic principles of mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, kinetics, and transport. (Gen.Ed. BS)

Transport Process

Emphasis on foundation and conceptual understanding of physical phenomena. Focus on prototypes of convective transport and transport processes involving homogeneous and heterogenous reactions; role of boundary conditions including moving boundaries; molecular interpretation of diffusion.

Chem Eng Lab I

Emphasizes the application of basic concepts of chemical engineering in the analysis and design of experiments. Oral and written reports required. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BS-CE majors.
