French Women Writers

This course examines the work of major contemporary Francophone women artists whose creative expression spans multiple disciplines, both literary and artistic. Our syllabus includes novels by writers Amelie Nothomb, Faiza Guene, Maryse Conde, and Assia Djebar; a play by Prix Goncourt laureate Marie Ndiaye; films by directors Agnes Varda and Claire Denis, and the powerful music of Angelique Kidjo. Readings in French; discussion in English and French. This course is recommended for students in French, Comparative Literature, African Studies, and Women and Gender studies.

ST-Burmese VI

Burmese VI is an intermediate-level course for students who have completed Burmese I-V or the equivalent. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Burmese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Myanmar (Burma) and to support course work in Southeast Asian Studies.

ST-Czech V

Czech V is an intermediate-level course for students who have completed Czeck I-IV or the equivalent. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Czech develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in the Czech Republic and to support course work in European Studies.

RAP First-Year Seminar

Explores a variety of issues related to a Residential Academic Program (RAP) topic from both current and historical contexts. Students participate in small group projects, reflective writing, class discussions and a final researched presentation. Provides a supportive environment for personal reflection and critical thinking on the topics germane to the course content. Students will identify ways to incorporate personal interests with academic interests.
