Golden Age Of Greece

Study of the art, history, and literature of the golden age of Greek Civilization. Historical periods studied include the Persian invasions and Persian culture, the Age of Pericles, the rise of Macedonia and the world domination of Alexander the Great. Readings from authentic and interpretive texts; no knowledge of Greek required. (Gen.Ed. HS)

Roman Civilization

Survey of ancient Roman literature, art, and history. The expansion of Rome and its political, social, and cultural development through the Republic to the Empire, emphasizing Roman influence on later western civilization. (Gen.Ed. HS)

Changing treatment of central themes, issues and problems in art history. Topics often cut across traditional geographic or chronological boundaries. Although topics change from semester to semester, offerings are usually available every year in Modern, Islamic, and American art and architecture. List of current offerings available in Art History Office, 317B Bartlett. Prerequisite: upper-level survey course bearing on the particular theme, or consent of instructor.
