Introduces nonmajors to theater as a performing art through a wide variety of theatrical experiences including attending live performances and creating original plays. Topics include major styles of theater throughout history and the roles of director, actor, and designer in the contemporary theater. Recommended for first- and second-year students. (Gen.Ed. AL)

Design and technical assignments on Department of Theater productions and varied tutorial projects in design and related technical problem-solving. May include research techniques, conceptualization, the study of characterization, elements of design, rendering techniques, draping, tailoring, make-up, and portfolio development.

Culminating creative project in the degree program. Prerequisite: degree candidacy.
