Sem/Music Education Research

This seminar provides opportunities for doctoral students to share their completed and in-progress research as a supportive community of emerging scholars. There will also be opportunities to collaborate with faculty on various research projects. Faculty-led discussions will include a variety of topics relevant to higher education, such as publication, job search, tenure and promotion in academia.

Innovation in Music Education

The purpose of this course is to explore innovative music curricula for students in grades K-12 and in music teacher education programs. Students will examine and critique various music teaching frameworks, theories, and models, as well as develop their own innovative curricular projects for specific settings.

Choral Mus Sec Ed

Organization of the choral program in the junior and senior high school. Materials and methods of teaching small and large vocal ensembles. Study of sol-fa. Field observations. For Music Education majors only.

Inst Mus Publ School

Materials, techniques, and methods for teaching instrumental music in the public schools, K-12. Field observations, reports, and micro-teaching experience. Prerequisites: instrumental techniques courses, conducting. For Music Education majors only.
