Intro to String Theory

An introduction to string theory targeted at graduate students with some prior knowledge of particle physics, quantum field theory and/or general relativity. We will study the bosonic string spectrum and interactions, worldsheet conformal field theory, background fields and effective actions, toroidal compactification, T-duality, D-branes, superstring theory and nonperturbative dualities, as well as other topics as time allows.

Monte Carlo Methods

Systematic introduction to one of the most powerful and versatile simulation techniques for large complex systems. The course starts with a short introduction to probability theory and random number generators, followed by the general theory of stochastic sampling techniques and data analysis for classical statistical models (including state-of-the-art schemes) and kinetic equations. The course concludes with the discussion of quantum Monte Carlo methods.
