Design and technical assignments on Department of Theater productions and varied tutorial projects in design and related technical problem-solving. May include research techniques, conceptualization, the study of characterization, elements of design, rendering techniques, draping, tailoring, make-up, and portfolio development.

This graduate level course will revisit and build on the foundations of professional scenic design practice such as dramaturgical and visual research, flexibility of methods and solutions in pursuit of a vision in support of a performance event, creative problem solving, model building, drafting, budgeting, and collaboration skills though actual production assignments in the department. Assignments will be determined by the needs and competence of the individual student. Special attention to portfolio development.

Problems in play direction. Work chosen and closely supervised by the performance faculty and presented in a production format determined by the student's current needs and abilities and demands on the department's performance facilities. Credit, 1-6.

Focus on the dramaturgy needs and challenges of current and just-finished productions. Discussions include research and analysis of projects, current topics in the field, pedagogical strategies and career preparation and includes guests from the profession.

This graduate seminar in dramaturgy each semester goes in depth into a special topic. Topics to include: Multicultural Theater Practice, Performance Theory, Avant-Garde Theater, Production Dramaturgy, Translation, Adaptation, and Dramaturgical Writing. A guide to live sound mixing for theatre. We'll cover how to properly mix a show and the influence the mix has on an audience, go over basic equipment, theatre specific mixing techniques, and the different roles covered by the sound team.
