Includes plate tectonics, mineral and rock identification, engineering geologic mapping, air photo interpretation, residual soils, glaciation, and engineering problems associated with geologic features. Prerequisite: CE-ENGIN 241or M&I-ENG 211. Co-requisite: CE-ENGIN 357.

Properties of soil used in engineering including: soil classification; compaction; swelling and shrinkage; permeability and seepage; consolidation; strength and stiffness; and implications of soil for civil engineering design.
