Biochemistry & MolcBio Journal

The goal of this journal club is to provide participants with the opportunity to critically analyze recent, peer-reviewed and pre-print research papers from the molecular life sciences, in discussion with their peers. Students will also take turns presenting a summary of relevant background information and leading the discussion of a paper that aligns with their research interests.

War & Peace in Rus Cult

Since 2022, the mass media of many countries around the world have been discussing Russia's aggression against Ukraine, the aggressive rhetoric of the Russian authorities, and the war's support from the country's population. Many experts believe that the current "pro-war consensus" in Russian society is deeply rooted in Russian culture.

Chemical Principles

As a bridge to prior learning, we will begin with the study of intermolecular forces and their ubiquitous role in chemistry and biology. We will then introduce chemical kinetics to understand the role temperature, concentration, and catalysts play in determining the speeds at which chemical reactions occur and to introduce the concept of chemical equilibrium. Through a thorough treatment of the laws of thermodynamics, we will develop a quantitative understanding of the factors which determine the extent to which chemical reactions can occur before reaching the state of equilibrium.

Honors Research

The Commonwealth Honors College thesis or project is intended to provide students with the opportunity to work closely with faculty members to define and carry out in-depth research or creative endeavors. It provides excellent preparation for students who intend to continue their education through graduate study or begin their professional careers. The student works closely with their 499Y Honors Research sponsor to pursue research on a topic or question of special interest to them in preparation for writing a 499T Honors Thesis or completing a 499P Honors Project.

International Economy

This class provides an introduction to the operation of international economic systems. It emphasizes both contemporary dynamics of global economic functioning as well as the historical development of global economic systems as they have unfolded over time. A particular focus of the class is on the institutions that enable and govern economic activity ? meaning institutions of law and property rights, national governmental policies, and the international organizations that govern global economic processes.
