The objective of this class is to gain a deeper understanding of several issues related to teaching and learning, including how students learn, different methods of instruction and mentoring, and the challenges in making and grading assignments. This course satisfies the MIE Elective for Mechanical Engineering majors.

The objective of this class is to gain an understanding of leading a competitive team including organizing and motivating team members, managing the design process, planning, financing and fund-raising, logistics, travel, and safety. Students are expected to contribute to their respective team (ASME, FSAE, Rocket, SMV, UAV, etc.) throughout the semester and to meet with the team faculty advisor regularly.

A professionally oriented seminar with faculty, university administration, and alumni speakers. Topics include: starting career options; career development; safety; switching companies and careers; working for oneself; graduate school.

Specifically, the course will focus on innovation to address social determinants of health challenges in healthcare. For example, during COVID telemedicine has seen a tremendous growth and application in healthcare. However, the question to explore is can we design more inclusive telemedicine, remote patient monitoring, or other remote/digital health technologies. For more specific examples, can blood pressure cuffs be put on if the patient has only one arm, or how can a person in a wheelchair weigh themselves on a Bluetooth scale? Are there issues for people of color etc.

Stochastic models including discrete time Markov chains, continuous time Markov processes, Markov decision processes, queuing theory, dynamic programming and their application to manufacturing and service sector engineering processes.

Introduction to the basic tools and classical deterministic models for decision makers responsible for the planning, design, and operations of physical and social systems. Topics include linear programming, integer programming, and network models.
