This is a stand-alone independent study designed by the student and faculty sponsor that involves frequent interaction between instructor and student. Qualitative and quantitative enrichment must be evident on the proposed contract before consent is given to undertake the study. A complete introduction to computer programming using the Python language. Topics include coverage of all the supported data types and program code structures, functions (up through lambda expressions and recursion), reasoning about and debugging existing code, implementation of custom libraries, selection of data structures, and the fundamentals of object-oriented programming.

Students will explore and discuss topics from the COMPSCI 446 curriculum in greater detail. Students will implement an expanded programming project, such as implementing the Inference Network retrieval model, and produce a final report on that project.

Provides an opportunity for University Honors students enrolled in COMPSCI 335 to take a deeper look at aspects of computer hardware technology and low-level programming. This may involve additional reading and discussion, extra programming projects, conducting experiments.
