Afrikaans III

Afrikaans III is the third part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Afrikaans. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Afrikaans develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in South Africa and to support course work in African Studies.

Swahili Senior Research II

Advanced Swahili Senior Research II is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

AdvSwahili/HealthPolicyStudies

This is a course in advanced Swahili speaking, listening, reading and writing. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The content of the course focuses on health policies and cultural concepts related to health in East African countries. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss health and health policy related topics in culturally appropriate ways.

Written Persian II

Persian for Speakers II is designed for students who have advanced fluency in spoken Persian but need to learn to read and write. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes individual tutorials. The course continues the review of Persian grammar and structure started in Written Persian I. By the end of the course, students should be able to read standard Persian and be able to compose simple texts such as dialogues, paragraphs, and letters in written Persian.

Vietnamese/HeritageSpeakers2

Vietnamese for Heritage Speakers II is a course for students who already have some basic speaking skills in Vietnamese. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Vietnamese develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Vietnam and to support course work in Asian Studies.

Urdu for Urdu-Hindi Spkrs II

Urdu for Hindi-Urdu Speakers II is for advanced speakers of Hindi or Urdu who want to learn to read and write in Urdu. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.

Hindi for Hindi-Urdu Spkrs II

Hindi for Hindi-Urdu Speakers II is for advanced speakers of Hindi or Urdu who want to learn to read and write in Hindi. The course is offered through the Five College Mentored Language Program. Topics are chosen in consultation with the program director. The course format includes small group conversation sessions and individual tutorials. Students studying Urdu develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and cultural etiquette skills needed for study abroad in Pakistan or India and to support course work in South Asian Studies.
