This course explores gender and sexuality in African history, from the era of the slave trade to the present. Together, we will examine a range of themes, including politics and power, marriage and motherhood, fashion and the body, and love and intimacies.

An examination of the various public images and uses of history and issues confronted by historians working in museums, historic sites, oral history, historic preservation, archives and documentary film.

A survey of major historiographical themes in the study of early American history from pre-contact to the early republic.
