One Health

The One Health concept recognizes that the health of humans, animals, and the environment is interdependent and acknowledges that a collaborative effort from multiple disciplines is necessary to solve the complex health problems facing society today. This transdisciplinary approach can be applied at the local, regional, national, and international level to achieve the most favorable health outcomes. Students in this course will analyze contemporary global health topics and integrate current and previous learning experiences to identify solutions to real-world problems.

Infection & Immunity

This course is an introduction to infectious diseases and immunity in the context of the basic mechanisms of the immune system. Topics include infectious organisms, infection and the immune response, and specific diseases of selected companion and production species. Principles of vaccination and preventative management are discussed.

Lab Animal Med & Mgt lab

This lab is taken concurrently with the lecture course ANIMLSCI 455V Laboratory Animal Medicine & Management. The lab covers learning and demonstrating hands-on the common technical procedures used in rats, mice, rabbits and other lab animals and the daily husbandry and care of the lab animal colony, including husbandry, feeding and health assessments.

Lab Animal Medicine & Mgmt I

This course, and concurrent registration in the associated lab course, ANIMLSCI 455VL, provides basic instruction in laboratory animal anatomy and physiology, restraint and handling, nutrition and management ? with emphasis on the laboratory rat, mouse, hamster, rabbit and gerbil. Lectures include material on principles of disease, research use and therapeutic techniques and well as regulations applicable to research facility operation.
