Catalan Culture

This course is an overview of the Catalan Culture including the most important and influential aspects: history, territorial organization, language, festivities and traditions, gastronomy, and artistic expressions. Through this course, students will be able to discover a rich, unique, and interesting culture that will widen your perception and knowledge of Peninsular cultures.

Elementary Catalan I

This course is an introduction to Catalan for students with no prior knowledge of the language. Through a task-based, communicative approach, this course seeks to initiate students into the elements of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Catalan.

S-Biomedical Engineering Sem

This seminar series is a 1-credit class, open to graduate students in the BME program. Students enrolled in the seminar are expected to attend the BME Seminar Series and/or present at and attend the BME Graduate seminar series. Seminar speakers are chosen each semester by the BME faculty for their relevance to topics in biomedical engineering.

Medical Physiology and Anatomy

This course focuses on the role anatomy and physiology play in the development of biomedical solutions to disease. The course will cover anatomy and physiology of key systems related to biomedical engineering, with a focus on the cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and neural systems. For each system, the anatomy and physiology will be covered in detail. Next, a selection of pathophysiology will be discussed and bioengineering challenges and solutions described.

AI in Biomedicine

This course is intended to provide biomedical engineering students with a basic understanding of the foundations of artificial intelligence (AI) and introduce them to the current AI landscape and a spectrum of biomedical applications that can benefit from AI. The course with start with a rigrorous mathematical introduction that will review essential knowledge in linear algebra and statistics and familiarize students with the basics of statistical estimation and numerical optimization.

Biosensing: Fundamentals

This course offers an introduction to the field of biosensing with in-depth view of materials, device design, applications, and performance analysis. Specific topics emphasize materials science, biomedical applications, analytical methods, and translational research.
