Intro/Public Relations

This course addresses the principles and practices of public relations and strategic communication in the public, private, for-profit and no-profit arenas. Course includes lectures, readings, multimedia viewings and student-engaged, collaborative and classroom and online learning methods.

Greek History

Selections from Greek historians: Herodotus, Thucydides, Xenophon, Polybios, etc. Emphasis on the evolution of historiography in the ancient world. Prerequisite: 300-level course in Greek or equivalent.

Historical Archaeology

Drawing on a range of different methods (oral histories, excavation, and archival research) historical archaeology seeks to understand the histories of colonialism, capitalism, slavery, and globalization that defined the development of the modern world (1400-present) and in many ways continue to define our world today. In this seminar course, students will learn about the theoretical foundations of historical archaeology through a focus on archaeological case studies and material culture from around the world.

ST-Therapeutic Riding & Instrc

Students will learn about equine-assisted services, including equine-assisted therapy, equine-assisted learning, horsemanship, and interactive vaulting. This course will focus on the approaches and benefits of these services to individuals with intellectual, physical, sensory, and/or psychosocial disabilities across the lifespan. This course consists of both classroom-based learning as well as field experience at the UMass Hadley Farm. No horse experience is required, but students should be comfortable interacting with horses.

Beginning in the late 20th century, human organization and experience has increasingly been influenced by digital forms of communication, production and integration with the environment. This is an environmental, technological, social landscape that will likely dominate the rest of our lives, but how can we responsibly accept or use it without putting it in context with other forms of technology and communities?

Developmental Psychopathology

In this course, we will explore and discuss mental health concerns and psychological problems using a developmental lens. Using foundational readings and through case studies, we will establish an understanding of the psychology field's approach to evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychological problems that are circumscribed to (e.g., reactive attachment) or typically first appear or are first detected in childhood and adolescence (e.g., ADHD, conduct problems, anxiety, developmental disorders, neurodivergence).

Lab: Transdiagnostic Apprch.

Transdiagnostic approaches to understanding and treating psychopathology seek to identify psychological processes that serve as mechanisms across different types or categories of disorders. In this course, students will learn about the clinical psychology research process including developing research questions, considering ethical issues, conducting a literature review, selecting appropriate measurement tools, and analyzing and interpreting data.
