CARE

What counts as care? For whom? In what contexts? To what effects? In this course, we will draw on a range of ethnographic work, including cultural and linguistic anthropology, as well as feminist and indigenous theory, film, media, and activist literature to explore contemporary issues of care. In the three units of the class - doing, knowing, being - we will examine care as a concrete everyday practice, one that is rooted in and shapes ways of understanding the world, and which has far-reaching implications that both reproduce and resist multiple intersecting inequalities.

S-Behav Ethics & OrgCorruption

Unethical behavior has deleterious consequences for employees and organizations alike. Drawing on over 30 years of business behavioral ethics research, this course will help students understand the psychology of unethical behavior and corruption in the workplace. We will explore questions such as why do individuals engage in unethical behavior at work, how does individual-level behavior "level up" within organizations, and what are the levers available to organizational decision makers interested in creating a healthy ethical infrastructure?

S-Diversity&Disadvantage@Work

As the workforce becomes more diverse, and movements such as #MeToo and Black Lives Matter highlight the lived experiences of members of historically-marginalized groups, it remains critical to understand the effects of diverse identities and the concomitant (dis)advantage these identities confer on individuals in the workplace. In this course, we take a deep-dive into organizational scholarship on this topic and consider the role and effects of surface- and deep-level diversity at the individual, group, and organizational levels.

S-Sustainability&Organizations

Sustainability is the leitmotif that strings through many theories of the organization. In this module, we explore the historical roots of sustainability in management research and examine sustainability through several theoretical lenses represented in organizational scholarship. We will discuss empirical strategies and methodological approaches used by scholars studying sustainability.

S-Sem/International Management

The course is intended to expose doctoral students to the major research areas that underpin the field of international management. Some of the areas will include the impact of globalization, the role of multinational corporations, international entry modes, and corporate and national culture. A number of seminal articles will be assigned to familiarize students with the variety of theoretical and empirical approaches used in the study of international management.
