Modern Physics I

Fourth term of introductory Physics sequence. Survey of discoveries in physics in the 20th century; special relativity, prelude to quantum theory, principles of quantum mechanics with application to problems in one dimension. PHYSICS 284 and 424 constitute a full-year course in modern physics. Prerequisites: PHYSICS 181, 182, , or consent of instructor, MATH 233.

Tech Theortcl Phys

Application of mathematical methods to solving problems in physics using calculus-based methods. Fourier series, Fourier and Laplace transforms and their use in solving ordinary differential equations (ODEs). Green?s function approach to solving ODEs with initial and boundary value problems. Vector calculus including Stokes and divergence theorems and their applications to electromagnetism.

Computational Physics

Computational physics in a computer laboratory setting. Numerical techniques and simulations of a variety of physical systems taught concurrently with programming skills using languages such as Python or Matlab. No prior programming experience required.

Hnr Indstu In Physic

This is a stand-alone independent study designed by the student and faculty sponsor that involves frequent interaction between instructor and student. Qualitative and quantitative enrichment must be evident on the proposed contract before consent is given to undertake the study.
