Power Systems Design

Energy sources and power systems used by industry and utilities to produce electricity, mechanical power, process heating and cooling are examined for energy efficiency and economic feasibility. Analysis and design of thermal systems and specific components are considered. Prerequisites: M&I-Eng 340 and 354.

ST- Mechatronics

Mechatronics as the synergistic integration of mechanical design, electronics design, controls, and embedded programming throughout the product and process design, with the aim to optimize the final design output. This course covers mechatronic system design process, low-level interfacing of software with hardware, implementing real-time computation tasks, digital logic, analog devices and power amplifiers, measurement and sensing, actuators, and control of mechatronic systems.

Capstone Design

Integration of industrial engineering/operations research principles and procedures into the design of an operating system (production/manufacturing, financial, service systems). Selected projects completed by small groups. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BS-IE majors. Prerequisites: M&I-ENG senior standing and completion of all required M&I-ENG courses.

Prodctn Plan&Control

Quantitative techniques of production planning and control, including forecasting, master production scheduling, manufacturing resources planning, operation scheduling, materials management, just-in-time production, and inventory management.

Aerospace Fluid Mech

Incompressible and compressible flow theory applied to airplane lifting surfaces and engines. Topics include potential flow theory, the Euler equations, thin airfoil theory, and gas dynamics. A commercial computational fluid dynamics package may be used to visualize the flows.
