What is a Certificate of Insurance?
Exchanging proof of insurance is a common step in the contracting process. A Certificate of Insurance is a document obtainable by request from your insurance company as proof to a third party that your institution is insured. This document lists all of the information required to file a claim in the event of an accident or injury: the name of the insured, the policy numbers, the type of coverage, and the limits on coverage.
Those reviewing certificates from third-parties can check out an example Certificate of Insurance developed by our office to better explain what to look for.
