Labor and Employment Law

This course is designed to introduce students to the policy considerations that underlie labor and employment law. Students will also develop an understanding of how these policies and laws apply to human resource management. This class will introduce students to the major federal and state statutes, case law, and administrative rules that are essential for effective human resource management.

Behavior in the Global Economy

In this course, we cut across disciplinary boundaries from management into anthropology, political science, sociology, geosciences, among others. We also "visit" several regions of the world and look at key current issues from their regional perspectives. Students explore many ways in which the idea of "behavior in the global economy" might be understood and what it would mean for you as future member of an organization, and as citizen of a global society.

New Venture Org & Growth

This course addresses the issues an entrepreneur must navigate to turn an idea into a vibrant business. Students learn how entrepreneurs form companies, build teams, secure intellectual property and develop a corporate culture. Throughout the course, particular attention is paid to ?people issues? such as founder relations and the dynamic between the CEO and board of directors. Students also see that the entrepreneurial journey can become rocky when competitors try to block key hires, when the party on the other side of the table is a corporate giant and when cash gets tight.

New Venture Financing

This course is designed to provide a fundamental understanding of the financing alternatives that may be available to a growing enterprise during its life cycle and the costs and benefits of each. After reviewing the basics of capital structure, the course covers a full range of financing options from traditional venture capital to corporate investments, government grants and funding techniques that make use of the internet. The course also addresses some of the strategic financial decisions that the entrepreneur encounters as the company matures.
