ST-Industry-Sponsored Mech Des

This is a senior design project course for a 2-semester industry-sponsored project. Students will attend MIE 415 for 2-semesters and remain on the same team for the project duration. Project includes design concept selection, design specification writing, assembly design (DFM), design analysis, a final report and oral presentations in defense of the design. Satisfies a technical elective requirement for BS-ME majors.

Seminar

Introduction to capstone design project, ethics, preparing for industry or graduate school. Prerequisite: IE majors, senior standing.

Connections/Med, Bio, Engin

Students will learn fundamental principles of molecular biology and fluid dynamics as they relate to human physiology and disease, with a focus on the cardiovascular, lymphatic and pulmonary systems. The relationship between the forces applied by the blood to blood vessels and heart, lymph to lymphatic vessels and air to the pulmonary airways are explored via formal lectures and journal article discussions. The course will also cover various experimental systems used to quantify cell response to forces. Students will be introduced to concepts of scientific writing.
