This is the laboratory component of ANIMLSCI 415. Students will learn clinical techniques including but not limited to venipuncture, intravenous catheterization, fluid therapy, clinical skills to assess the urinary system, bandaging, and electrocardiography.

Clinical Nursing

This course surveys the common disease conditions of the major body systems in the canine and feline patient. The technician?s role in diagnostic procedures, treatments, emergency and critical care, preventative medicine, and client education relative to these disease conditions is emphasized.

Veterinary Practice Management

This course presents basic concepts in managerial theory by examining such functions as leadership, organization, supervision, and evaluation. Lecture material includes a thorough examination of current techniques in veterinary facility management, technician utilization, client communication, marketing, record keeping, inventory control, and malpractice.

P-Community Veterinary Clinic

This course consists of rotations in the Community Clinic on the Mount Ida Campus of UMass Amherst. The Community Clinic provides basic veterinary care for economically disadvantaged pet-owners and other under-served populations in Massachusetts. This experiential service-learning course provide students who have completed the pertinent preparatory clinical coursework with practical exam room experience prior to the onset of their senior year internship rotations.

P- Equine Enterprise I

Management and operation of the Equine boarding facility at the Hadley Farm. Development of SOPs, cash flow statements, purchasing and ordering of supplies, delegation and supervision of labor, and appropriate client communication. Required weekly meetings and student committee assignments. Lab time includes weekly shifts at the facility.
