This discussion section is for students taking Advanced Swahili for Human Rights Policy (FORLANGC 197SX) as a full course.

This is a course in advanced Swahili speaking, listening, reading and writing. The content of the course focuses on human rights policies in East African countries. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss economic, political, and social-cultural topics in Swahili.

Swedish I is the first part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Swedish. The course is offered through the Five College Supervised Independent Language Program. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Swedish develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Sweden and to support course work in European or Scandinavian Studies.

Advanced American Sign Language B will introduce students to ASL literature, including ASL poetry. The course format follows a standard format for Five College Mentored Language courses.

Topics in Advanced Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Topics are chosen in consultation with the program director. The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, or Montenegro and to support course work in European Studies or Balkan Studies.

Advanced Turkish Senior Research I is for students working on an advanced Turkish research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Turkish.

Advanced Swahili Senior Research II is for students working on an advanced Swahili research project or thesis. Students develop skills in describing and narrating in detail, expressing opinions, giving reasons for opinions, and cross-cultural communication. Students develop vocabulary necessary to discuss and write about their chosen topic in Swahili.

Topics in Advanced Swahili II focuses on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, expanding vocabulary, and improving the ability to describe/narrate in detail and support opinions. Sinhala II is the second part of a four-part elementary course sequence in Sinhala (Sinhalese). The independent study format includes small group conversation sessions and an evaluation by an outside evaluator. Students studying Sinhala develop speaking and listening skills needed for study abroad in Sri Lanka and to support course work in South Asian Studies.
