This course is a 2 credit laboratory experience that allows students to apply the biological concepts covered in Biology 151 and 152 Introductory Biology in laboratory and field settings. Students will develop and practice scientific research skills while exploring the areas of genetics, cell and molecular biology, evolution, and ecology. To enroll, students must be co-enrolled in Biology 152 (Introductory Biology II) or have completed the 2 semester Introductory Biology Sequence (Biology 151 and 152).

This course is designed to give students an overview of the field of public health and health sciences. We will examine the history and philosophy of public health and basic epidemiology before exploring some of the many challenges faced by communities and public health and health sciences professionals across the world. This course explores both the historical and contemporary role(s) of race, ethnicity, and immigration in the construction and operation of American political life, and asks if DuBois' "color line" remains a pressing problem in the twenty-first century.

This course explores both the historical and contemporary role(s) of race, ethnicity, and immigration in the construction and operation of American political life, and asks if DuBois' "color line" remains a pressing problem in the twenty-first century.

In this course, students dive into the fundamentals of audio journalism and begin to develop their own storytelling styles and voices. Along the way, they learn the technical side of audio while building confidence in creating stories for the ear (a much different process than writing for the eye). And it all starts and ends with reporting and writing ? for both broadcast radio stories and longform podcasts.

Individual field study and practice for a semester or a summer in news organizations, public agencies, or elsewhere. Part-time arrangements possible. Internship credit divided between Pass/Fail in JOURNAL 298 and 1-6 graded credits in JOURNAL 398. Prerequisites: JOURNAL 300, 45 completed credit hours, and a grade point average of 2.5, or consent of director of internships.
