ECE Math/Sci Methods PreK-2

This course is designed to help early childhood education majors learn about and develop methods for teaching mathematics and science in grades pre-K?2. Students will develop personal understandings and confidences in mathematics and science so that they will be able to design instruction for early childhood classrooms. In particular, students will learn the importance of problem solving and asking questions as core practices of doing mathematics and science for all children.

An introduction to the structure of mathematics: the role of mathematics in education and the methods, materials, and curricular aspects of mathematics education in grades pre-K through 6th.

Classroom Assessment hons

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an introduction to anti-racist classroom assessment that includes a consideration of technical issues, as well as policy issues related to assessment use and misuse in American education. Drawing on Critical Race Theory as the central framework, this course focuses on classroom assessment practices from an anti-oppressive perspective.

Classroom Assessment

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with an introduction to classroom assessment that includes a consideration of technical issues, as well as policy issues related to test use and misuse in American education. The ultimate goal of this course is to provide the student with a balance of both theory and its practical applications in the area of assessment. This class is not designed strictly for teachers; however, students who are education minors or who plan to become teachers will find this class useful.
