S- From Here to Career HFA

This career development course is designed to help Humanities and Fine Arts students prepare for life by acquiring important professional skills and perspectives. The class will explore a variety of subjects, including how to customize resumes and cover letters, job and internship search strategies, interviewing skills, the importance of internships and networking, and what qualifications HFA majors bring to the job market. All course materials will be available at no cost online or distributed in class. Attendance at some career events outside of class required.

S-Career & Major Investigation

Career and Major Investigation is a seminar designed for students who are searching for a major or who have declared a major but aren't sure what they might do with that major after college. Through activities and class discussion we'll explore what makes you "you." We'll investigate what you love and what you want out of a job/career. You'll discover the academic opportunities UMass offers and learn how to customize your UMass experience. This course requires self-reflection and a willingness to share your thoughts with the class.

Explores a variety of issues related to a Residential Academic Program (RAP) topic from both current and historical contexts. Students participate in small group projects and class discussions. Provides a supportive environment for personal reflection and critical thinking on the topics germane to the course content. Students will identify ways to incorporate personal interests with academic interests.

IS- Navigating Washington

This independent study is designed to give students preliminary understanding of how history, politics, economics, and the legislative and administrative processes in Washington shape US public policy, and the impact this has on US international relations. Students will be asked to analyze the impact of recent international trade decisions by the Trump Administration, with a focus on what and who drove these decisions, both inside of Washington and out.

U.S. History to 1876

The development of social, political, economic, and intellectual life in the United States from Native American settlements to 1876. Topics include Puritanism, slavery and antislavery, Indian relations, religious reform as well as such events as the Revolution and Civil War. (Gen.Ed. HS)
