ST-PubPol,Racism, & Patriarchy

This course will offer a set of empirical and theoretical tools to grapple with how public policy has been used as an engine of inequality. We will discuss the origins of the field and various policy areas including urban policy, environmental policy, labor, criminal justice, infrastructure, and immigration (to name a few). We will also cast a critical lens on our methods as well. The goal is for students to become proficient in a broad swath of decolonial, intersectional, and critical policy studies with an emphasis on white supremacy and patriarchy.

Ethics and Public Policy

This course is an introduction to the institutions and regulations that promote and enforce ethical behavior in public service contexts, providing practical guidance and experience handling the complex ethical matters that arise in the public service. We will also discuss the fundamental theories and empirical research around notions of the state, citizenship, the public good, pro-social motivation, social justice, and other constructs that underlie ethical norms, all while focusing on their application to real world ethical problems.
