The SPHHS first-year seminar (FYS) U-Thrive and Explore is designed to support your transition to college and introduce you to a topic related to public health and health sciences. The first six weeks of the semester will be designed to provide the foundational skills for students to be successful and thrive at UMass. This course aims to promote a transdisciplinary debate, within the analytical perspectives of gender studies, feminist epistemology, and historical narratives, about the notions of " love(s)", "pleasures", and " violences" constructed in Western literature considered " best-seller" for women, and usually written by women, in order to understand how the ways of living and feeling among people were constructed from this so-called "new" literature: the chick-lit.

ST-Soc/EatingDisorders colloq

In this honors colloquium, in addition to the requirements of the base course, students will need to complete additional work, research, and/or writing as directed by the instructor. Students will perform analysis of some type of data related to the course, and will learn how to create an annotated bibliography or literature review. Additionally, they will display their findings in either a paper or a presentation. Students will learn more in-depth how Sociologists do their research, how to locate and identify peer-reviewed academic work, and to explore a topic of interest to them.

Gender & Globalization colloq
