Advanced Drawing Problems

Advanced investigation of contemporary drawing problems. Emphasis on foundations of graphic communication. Solutions to problems in relation to the individual students' personal insights and objectives. Satisfies the Integrative Experience requirement for BA-Art majors. Prerequisite: ART 201.

Discovering Data

Data plays a central role in shaping education research, policy, and practice. However, despite the frequent use of quantitative data in education research, students are often expected to engage with data in advanced ways without first having a structured opportunity to develop their foundational skills. Intended for students with no prior experience in programming or statistics, this course will introduce students to the data exploration, visualization, and analysis skills commonly applied to quantitative educational data.

Learning and Ed Equity

The educational experiences of modern American students can vary drastically according to their identities and backgrounds. Such a reality problematizes a “one size fits all” model of education and necessitates that students and teachers alike gain a more nuanced and actionable understanding of the interplay between identity, background, and schooling.

Gender, Conflict & Security

This course investigates the gendered dimensions of armed conflict, foreign policy, international governance, peace-building, and post-conflict insecurities. Students will engage with academic and policy debates about how gendered power distributions shape international and human security. We will explore the issues raised in these debates by considering historical and contemporary global cases, including the role of masculinity in foreign policy, women's participation in political violence, gender- based civilian targeting, international post-conflict courts and transitional justice.

Quantum Information Science

Quantum information science (QIS) revolutionizes our understanding of the fundamental laws of the universe and promises world-altering improvements in a number of practical computational tasks. For theoretical computer scientists, QIS provides the means to unlock the ultimate computational powers available to us in this universe. For programmers and computer engineers, QIS offers the tools to run simulations and optimizations otherwise infeasible on classical computers. For theoretical physicists, QIS gives us hope of resolving paradoxes foundational to our understanding of Nature.
