An overview of fundamental accounting concepts, so that a company?s balance sheet and income statement may be read and understood. The course will explain how performance is tracked and offer insight into basic financial statement analysis and interpretation of results. The course will also explain how accounting records support internal decision making and walk through some relevant decision scenarios. In addition, the use of accounting records to coordinate and motivate employee action will be demonstrated.

SBS Pathways/College Success

This course is a continuation of the first year seminar. In this class, students will focus on their learning styles, personal well-being, study skills, campus resources, and making connections with students, faculty and staff at UMass. This is an opportunity to continue explore majors/minors and certificates and get involved on campus.

ST-Modeling Wind Turbines/FAST

In this course, students will learn how to use the FAST code to simulate wind turbines. FAST is a free, open-source code created by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. It models the aerodynamics, structural dynamics, hydrodynamics, and control of a wind turbine. Students will learn how to download and run FAST, how to generate and modify input files, and how to analyze output data. At the end of the course students should be highly competent users of FAST, ready to perform loads and energy generation analysis and try out new design modifications of their own.

A practicum/internship will help you gain invaluable knowledge and skills that can serve as a stepping-stone to your career. You can find an internship locally, in a major city, or abroad. Seeking an practicum/internship requires a great deal of initiative on your part - you must both find a site where you can work and connect with a faculty member who will support you in your academic efforts related to that work.
