Twenty-five years ago the Zapatistas, a revolutionary indigenous movement, rose in revolt in Chiapas. Surfacing the same day that NAFTA went into effect-January 1, 1994, they announced a different vision of Mexico's future. On July 1, 2018, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador [AMLO] swept to power in the first election of a Leftist president since Mexico's "transition to democracy" in 2000. Today, these two poles of resistance are at odds, as the Zapatistas argue that the capitalist hydra, the "monster without a country" continues to rule despite who has been elected.

In this course, students will be introduced to relevant social science research methods and data analytics used by public relations professionals. Students will learn about the importance of research in communication and business situations, as well as how it can be applied to the communication planning, development and evaluation process.

In this graduate seminar students will examine the relationship between the United States and their Asian Pacific neighbors since 1800. The course will introduce students to key themes, theoretical frameworks, and chronologies relevant to the United States' diplomatic relations with Japan, China, Korea, Hawaii, the Philippines, and Vietnam. We will then explore the transnational cultural histories of the US with each of these countries.
