Technical Direction

This class will offer students the opportunities to learn how scenery, props, and other technical elements are created for theater and other entertainment venues. Students will gain practical experience working with various materials and techniques while fabricating elements for the theater department's main-stage productions. Instructions will include lectures and hands-on demonstrations on topics such as project management, wood and metal joinery, material choices, and the making of non-toxic goo. Students will work in pairs and in teams within a safe and creative environment.

Integrative Experience/Portug

This course will help students reflect upon the way in which their education as Spanish majors relates to their life experiences and aspirations. It will also give them an opportunity to reflect upon the way in which their overall education prepares them to life and career after the university. Throughout the semester we will explore their personal and education experiences and examine opportunities in study abroad, service learning and internships, considering how these programs fit in with their other studies, and the way these prepare them to move on into the professional world.

JYW Seminar in History

This seminar trains students in historical research techniques and the writing of history, and fulfills the University's Junior Writing requirement. See the History Department course description guide for various sectional sub-titles and descriptions.

Expanded & Experimtl Animation

In this course, you will be introduced to a variety of techniques and forms of experimental and expanded animation. You will use the materials of time, sound, texture, place, and performance to produce conceptual films that create a physical experience for your viewer. Through short exercises and longer projects, you will gain hands-on experience with optical devices, collaborative animation, abstract narratives, performance and/or site-based work, and animation that otherwise leaves the four sides of the screen.
